Who we are
Beyond Fossil Fuels (BFF) is an alliance of civil society groups committed to transforming the European energy sector. We strive for a just transition to a fossil-free, fully renewables-based power system that protects our climate and people. This campaign is supported by a BFF secretariat, with staff spread across Europe.
This position will strive to shift countries away from coal and gas towards a renewable-based energy supply in the power sector, as part of the global strategy of Beyond Fossil Fuels. This position is created to support the BFF secretariat during the parental leave of our Senior International Campaigner.

  • Preferable start date: May 2025
  • Employment type: 80% FTE-time, 10 - 12 month contract
  • Locations we hire in: Consultancy contract in any EU member country, Western Balkans and Turkey.
Please note that we do not have the resources to relocate candidates to Europe from outside the continent.
Your responsibilities
As the senior international campaigner, you will be responsible for:
  • Leading on designing and executing BFF’s global strategy, focused on diplomacy, political campaigning and advocacy interventions between Europe and other countries and regions, to accelerate government action on the fossil-to-renewables power sector transition;
  • Convening strategy discussions and coordinating insight sharing between civil society organisations (CSOs) working on diplomacy, political campaign and advocacy interventions on the fossil-to-renewables power sector transition, as part of the Global Clean Energy NGO network;
  • Together with CSOs from Europe and other regions, implement activities around global and regional climate / energy diplomacy moments; 
  • Responding to queries on Europe, and organising experience and knowledge sharing opportunities with allies from other regions;
  • Contributing to BFF secretariat internal planning, reporting, budget oversight and fundraising efforts;
  • Oversee the work of one direct report, and manage other external consultants for specific projects as required.
Your profile
  • You have at least six years of work experience of working on energy/climate/environment issues in non-governmental organisations or in relevant government positions (such as foreign affairs, strategic communications etc.);
  • You have at least five years of experience in developing narrative-driven campaign strategies and running campaigns and advocacy efforts, including to influence governments;
  • You have at least three years line management experience;
  • You have a comprehensive understanding of the energy transition, including its political and economic context in Europe, and how this relates to other regions;
  • You possess strong interpersonal skills, are competent at facilitating and supporting the work of others, and have the ability to build common cause and reach agreements among multi-organisational teams;
  • You possess excellent communication skills, including the ability to communicate clearly and concisely;
  • You are highly organised and capable of balancing multiple priorities and projects;
  • You are confident working remotely with a broad range of people from different countries, cultures, and backgrounds;
  • You are passionate about promoting a healthy, environmentally friendly, and fair society;
  • You are proficient in using google productivity tools (docs, slides, calendar, etc.);
  • You have excellent spoken and written English.
Desirable skills & experience
  • Knowledge of international energy / climate diplomacy and negotiations;
  • A track record of successful political campaigning and advocacy efforts in relation with governments;
  • Experience with working in other countries/regions outside Europe;
  • Experience of working in environments with limited space for civil society;
  • You speak other languages.
